Minor vs. Major Guitar Chords

When playing open chords, the notes are not always arranged right. The key of open chords is closest to D Major when played as described in guitar literature everywhere. But this isn't exactly accurate. My theory is that the open chords are in the key of C Major, which means the A chord and D chord should be played in their minor form. This gives a consistent key signature for the chords you might play. I'm sure there's value in learning many voicing's of open and "closed" chords. For now I'll play a mixture of major and minor chords and see if it works for songs and for use with a capo.
