Best vs. Lean in Gaming and in Life...

I feel like many instances of ideals and in this case Magic the Gathering decks can be boiled down into 2 categories...the Best case scenario where you're playing with simple rules and just do what makes sense, and then there is the Lean category where you're playing for tournament dominance and could cut corners... I guess there are pro's and con's of each strategy, but I find myself gearing toward Best more and more every day because it seems that the Lean doesn't go away even if you want it to. So my decks are becoming cheaper and more easy-going as time goes on, it doesn't mean I'm not vested in the game, perhaps it's just a more mature sensibilities and priorities list. Either way there are fewer "dirty deeds done dirt cheap" and more "wanna soak up the sun." I'm sure there will still be many lost causes, dead ends, mistakes, false starts etc...but it's clear that board games including Magic the Gathering and poker for that matter have their limits...
