Why Does My Doctor Ask Dumb Questions?

Ok, so I'm familiar with bad time Charlie. I have bipolar depression. I live in a state where it's cold and dark a lot of the time. But my doctor must stop asking me whether I'll off myself. I understand that kids get caught up in the wrong line of reasoning and get steered away from life's pleasantries, yet I know for a fact that when someone tells me they aren't going to off themselves I respond by accepting their offer of good faith and quit asking the question. It's an insult to my intelligence to ask such a shitty question.
