Most attempts at mind control, or suggestion as we'll call it in this article, are flukes of nature...minor discrepancies between mind, body, and environment calling on us for moments merely to be aware of ourselves. Suggestion is a powerful force when wielded by a strong willed person. This is why I don't like making a practice of picking on monks as their power of suggestion is very fine tuned and very powerful.
Suggestion comes in many forms and there are ways of countering suggestion or reinforcing it.
For example, when you're walking down the road and there's someone else in your path. It's necessary that either they move, or you walk around them. It's a very simple example of a choice that two individuals make where suggestion is at work. The implied collision if both parties do nothing is an unpleasant end that both parties are inherently aware of. This gives suggestion of the stronger willed individual a natural course. Avoid collision and keep from being collided with. Naturally taking responsibility for the situation and suggesting that the second party follow suit. A slightly more obtrusive objection might be a stated phrase..."get out of the way." And so on, a force escalation curve that might end in physically removing the second party from the path.
This linear walkers paradigm works in the real world in 3 dimensions in many situations. There are many variables taken for granted by 1 or both parties until the task is completed or the danger resolved, but often it is the stronger willed individual making a path for himself. The first reason I don't fear suggestion, it works.
My personal fear of suggestion is limited by a strong will of body and mind. Where my mind is often want of novelty and submission, my body simply does not allow it. And there are times where my body is want of things, where my mind is the moderator. Keeping a strong body and mind is so much more than good sense, it's the definition of who we are.
Now onto the seedier side of suggestion. There are many variables at work that would see you brought low in the story of life. There are suggestions to break the law, follow an unwise course, or otherwise break down situations where the individual may be at risk. To be well advised in such situations is to yield to actors that we may be infringing on. Yielding gives us the advantage of seeing our stronger companion follow their course.
In conclusion you now see that suggestion is a largely linear path with many variables where yielding may be advantageous.
