I'm looking for any and all ways to apply my Computer Science degree and skills to the real world. I'm desperately overqualified, yet I love my job as a Ride Operator at ValleyFair. I've come to accept that computers and technology will always be a big part of my life. But I want real world skills too.
So, I'm looking for any way that I might transfer my online presence into a natural world skill. One outlet that I've found is music. Playing and listening to music makes me feel as though I'm making use of my computer skills. Don't ask me why, it just does. Shopping does too. But I would like some skill that allows me to mold, build, and create something that is useful in the natural world. Like say knitting.
I've knitted a handful of hats and that is very rewarding, but it's not quite right. I want a project made of steel, wood, or plastic. Something that is more relatable. Something that doesn't cost too much that might help another person. Some sort of craft, a niche where I would be well versed. Like knitting, building computers, drawing, crafting of some sort. It doesn't need to be spectacular just functional. Like, pool cues, or custom remote controls, or a specific hand tool, or a wooden box, or pottery, or wood carving, or lighter sleeves, or hand carved YoYos, or chainmail, or book covers, or shadow boxes, or framed puzzles...something along those lines.
I'm really looking for a project that is in demand, if you have any ideas for a hobby that might last the rest of my life, please comment.
I'll continue doing the things I've been doing but building custom cars just ain't an option right now. I need something that I can turn quickly, so I can move on to the next project. I'm not really envious of custom jobs, I'm just looking for a maintainable hobby where I build something.
